David returned to acting when he retired in 2008. He has enjoyed acting with the Frodsham Players and has taken on a variety of roles. He especially enjoyed the role of Shpigelsky in Patrick Marber's adaptation of Turgenev's Three Days in the Country, and the role of the Professor. in The Lady Vanishes. His most recent roles with the Players have included: Anthony Absolute in Sheridan's The Rivals; Mock Turtle in Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, and Mr Jaggers in Great Expectations. David won the Cheshire Theatre Guild's Best Male Comedy Performance for his portrayal of Toad in the Player's production of The Wind in the Willows in 2021.
