About the Players

John Bu'LockWe are an amateur drama group, formed in 1942, that performs in Frodsham, Cheshire. Our founder was Mr John Herbert Bu’lock, who had earlier founded the Castner Kelner Amateur Dramatic Society.

We generally perform two plays each year – one in the spring and the other in late autumn.

Our productions are staged at Frodsham Community Centre and St Laurence Church, Frodsham.

We have performed a variety of different plays over the years and are constantly looking to expand our repertoire. 2016 saw us stage our first open air performance of Shakespeare’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream.”

We are always keen to encourage new members to join our group, both to act but also to help with the many activities that are necessary to put on a play.

Message from the Chairman:
Welcome to Frodsham Players. We are an amateur drama group which was established in 1942. Generally, we perform two productions a year, one in Spring and one in the Autumn and we aim to produce good-quality theatre, which will often make you think, as well as entertain you. Our home has been Frodsham Community Centre, since it was built in 1975 and most of our plays are performed there.

In recent years, however, we have also done productions in St. Laurence Parish Church, a wonderfully atmospheric 12th century sandstone building.

We are members of the Cheshire Theatre Guild and NODA (National Operatic and Dramatic Association).

We are a friendly group and will always welcome new members, both acting and non-acting. A lot of our productions have small parts in them for anybody who might be interested in ‘starting to act’. We also particularly welcome anyone who would like to help backstage or front of house, eg with costumes, props, prompting, or lighting and sound.

Please do get in touch.
