Dario Fo (1926 – 2016)
Dario Fo was an Italian avantgarde playwright and actor. He won the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1997, despite facing government censure for his political views and social agitation. He worked with his wife, Franca Rame, and together founded the theatre companies Campagnia DarioFo-Franca Rame in 1958, Nuova Scena in 1968 and Collettivo Teatrale La Comune in 1970. With their final company they toured factories, parks, and gymnasiums.

Dario Fo wrote over 80 plays, co-authouring some with Rame. He is best known for his solo tour de force Mistero Buffo (1973) a comic mystery based on medieval mystery plays, but so topical that the shows changed with each
